I know it's the NIT Championship, but I'm excited enough to leave class early to watch the Hawkeyes play Baylor for a chance at the title! Iowa has been playing great in the last month, Jon Miller from hawkeyenation.com pointed out that Iowa has had double-digit leads in 12 of their last 13 contests, which is pretty impressive. Roy Marble has been rolling and should be tournament MVP if the Hawks win tonight, but Baylor should be no easy task.
Baylor is 22-14 on the season, here's how they fared against teams that made the dance.
L at Gonzaga by 7
L at Kansas by 17
W vs Oklahoma State by 10
L vs Oklahoma by 3
L at Iowa State by 8
L at Oklahoma State by 2
L at Kansas State by 20
L vs Iowa State by 5
L at Oklahoma by 14
L vs Kansas State by 3
W vs Kansas by 23
L vs Oklahoma State by 2
Looking at that, they didn't do that well against the big boys, except whooping Kansas and Oklahoma State.
Baylor is lead by Pierre Jackson, who was actually recruited by Iowa, he averages almost 20 points per game, and is fun to watch. Cory Jefferson and Isaiah Austin both average 13 a game for a high scoring Baylor team.
Jackson is a 5'10" SR Jefferson is a 6'9" JR and Austin is a 7'1" FR
Austin was one of the top recruits in the country and a McDonald's All-American. This could be a high scoring game, much like the Iowa-Oregon game a year ago in the NIT.
No matter the outcome of the game, it's a been a fun ride this season, and I look for even bigger things from the Hawkeyes next season! Go Hawkeyes.
