The Iowa Hawkeyes are 24-12 and will face Maryland (25-12) tonight in the Final Four of the NIT at Madison Square Garden in NYC. I know it's the NIT, but it's still exciting for an Iowa fan, for the team to be playing in April! Roy Devyn Marble has been lighting up the other teams thus far in the tournament and will need to have a big night if the Hawkeyes want to knock off the Terrapins. This will be a familiar matchup in the coming years as Maryland is slated to join the Big 10.
Maryland has a huge force in the middle, 7'1" Alex Len, who is a projected NBA lottery pick in June. Hopefully, Adam Woodbury and Gabe Olaseni can step up and slow him down. Doing some research on Len, it seems he struggles with shorter scrappier defenders, maybe the Hawks can send Basabe after him.
Marble will have to play like he has all tournament long, and Aaron White will have to play a little better than he did against Virginia.
Key players to watch for Maryland: Dez Wells SO 6'5" 13.2 Pts/G Alex Len 11.8 Pts/G
Maryland's top 3 scores are Sophomore's and their fourth is a Freshmen. Very young team that could be dangerous next year if Len stays.
Maryland started their season with a loss to Kentucky by 3, then went on a huge run winning 13 straight.
