Here's a look at Iowa's 2014 class, it's not highly rated, but there are some great athletes and they filled some needs. I think it's going to end up being a solid class overall, I could see Omar Truitt and Miles Taylor playing next year and possibly Aaron Mends. Maybe Jay Scheel will get some time at WR?
QB - Tyler Wiegers 6'4" 215 Pretty highly rated, but not a lot of offers (Iowa, Rutgers, BG, CMU, Toledo, WMU) I think he'll be a solid QB and could start his JR and SR year if he beats out Shimonek, but he'll also have to fend off Jack Beneventi.
RB - Markel Smith 5'11" 210 I think Smith is going to be great, give him a couple of years and he and Daniels will be one of the better 1-2 punches Iowa has ever had. Offers: Iowa, Illinois, Ole Miss, Missouri
RB - C.J. Hilliard 5'10" 185 C.J. could play RB or CB, but I think they project him as a RB, could get buried on the depth chart his first couple of years, but could step up later on. Would love to have his brother on board for next year's class, he's a top LB prospect. Offers: Iowa, Akron, Boston College, BG, Indiana, Miami OH, Ohio, Toledo, WMU
WR - Jay Scheel 6'1" 180 Jay is a great athlete and I can't wait to see him on the field, watching his QB video I like the way he runs, could be a solid WR. Offers: Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Nebraska
OL - Lucas LeGrand 6'5" 260 Could be one of those Iowa OL that ends up in the NFL under Ferentz. Could be a solid tackle.
OL - Keegan Render 6'4" 315 Keegan looks like a beast, I could see him as a starting G in a couple of years. Offers: Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Illinois
DE - Terrence Harris 6'3" 250 I think this guy was overlooked by a lot of schools and that's great for Iowa. A redshirt year will help him bulk up some, but he'll be a great addition to the depth chart. Offers: Iowa, FAU, UMASS, WMU
DE - Jameer Outsey 6'3" 225 This guy looks like a great athlete, he could play LB or DE, I guess we'll see where they put him, but I think he will excel at either spot. Offers: Iowa, Akron, Buffalo, Pitt
DE - Torey Hendrick 6'4" 240 Here's a juco guy that won't join the team until Summer, like Powell last year. Haven't seen any video on this guy, but look at the list of offers: Iowa, Arizona State, Florida State, Kansas, Kansas State, Mississippi State, NC State, Rutgers, Troy, West Virginia He'll have three years to play
DL - Matt Nelson 6'8" 255 I think this kid will be a beast, he's huge and will get even bigger. Chose Iowa over Stanford and Notre Dame, also had offers from Arkansas, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.
LB - Aaron Mends 6'0" 200 Here is another overlooked guy, kind of short for a LB, but he's a great athlete. I could see him on special teams next year and landing in the depth chart at LB after that.
LB - Ben Niemann 6'3" 205 Ben is an interesting prospect, has some nice Wr videos. His dad is the defensive coordinator at Northern Illinois, in fact, he snubbed them for Iowa. He lived in Indianola for a number of years and is friends with Keegan Render. I think Ben will be a solid LB.
LB - Parker Hesse 6'3" 215 Parker is another Iowa boy who was overlooked by a lot of schools. If he works hard he should be able to hit the field, good size and he's pretty athletic.
CB - Omar Truitt 5'11" 180 Omar is one of my favorite recruits in the class, I think he could play next year. Probably won't start, but I think he could crack the two-deeps. Offers: Iowa, Maryland, Syracuse, Miami OH
CB - Jalen Embry 6'0" 184 Jalen is another great athlete in the class, could play WR, too. Offers: Iowa, Ball St, CMU, Cincinnati, EMU, N. Ill, Ohio, Toledo, WMU, Wisconsin
CB - Marcel Joly 5'11" 180 I haven't seen much film on Marcel, but I've heard great things. Offers: Iowa, Maryland, Old Dominion, Temple, Vandy
S - Miles Taylor 6'0" 185 Loved that Iowa was able to get Miles away from Georgia Tech, what a huge get! I think he could definitely play next year, even if it's special teams. I think he'll end up being a great safety. Offers: Iowa, GT, UMASS, Temple
S - Josh Jackson 6'1" 175 Josh is another recruit who could play WR or DB, but I think we'll see him start off at safety. Offers: Iowa, Colorado State, Nevada, NMSU
K - Mick Ellis 5'10" 180 I never watch video on kickers, so I'm not sure what to expect from Mick.
P - Dillon Kidd 6'1" 210 The Hawkeyes grabbed a juco punter, which means there will be some competition for the starting job. Dillon was originally going to play for Florida State, and his dad was a long-time NFL punter.
Greyshirts/Walk-Ons
OL - Dalton Ferguson
OL - Ross Reynolds
LS - Zach Johnson
DE - Sam Brinks
LB - Eric Grimm
