Well, another week of college football has passed and we are getting down to some great races in the conferences/divisions/playoffs, should be a fun finish. Iowa pounded Northwestern 48-7, it was the best game I have seen Iowa play since last year's 59-3 win over Western Michigan. It was beautiful, I hate Pat Fitzgerald and he always deserves an ass-kickin! I predicted Arkansas to beat Mississippi State last week, they came up just short, they've played so tough in big games this year. Here's a look at my new top 25, mixing things up a bit.
TOP 25
1-Florida State
2-Mississippi State
3-Auburn
4-Oregon
5-Michigan State
6-Kansas State
7-Alabama
8-Baylor
9-TCU
10-Arizona State
11-Notre Dame
12-Ohio State
13-Nebraska
14-Oklahoma
15-Georgia
16-Arizona
17-LSU
18-Ole Miss
19-Duke
20-Wisconsin
21-Clemson
22-UCLA
23-Marshall
24-Utah
25-West Virginia
HEISMAN RACE
Right now, I have eight players in my Heisman race, but there are several players that could certainly step up within the next few weeks. As of right now, I think Marcus Mariota is the favorite, but I really want to see a running back win this year. Here's my top eight.
1-Marcus Mariota QB Oregon 2,541-26-2 410-7
Has amazing numbers, and Oregon could well be on their way to a berth in the playoffs.
2-Melvin Gordon RB Wisconsin 1,296-18 19 total td
Wisconsin has stumbled a couple of times, but could win out and reach the Big Ten title game, Gordon has been amazing.
3-Dak Prescott QB Mississippi State 2,025-16-7 725-10
Has some great numbers and Mississippi State keeps winning.
4-Everett Golson QB Notre Dame 2,311-22-7
Lack of a marquee win could be hurting Golson right now, but this week at Arizona State could give him a chance to move up.
5-Ameer Adbullah RB Nebraska 1,250-17 18 total td
Abdullah has been amazing this year, he got a little dinged up last week. If he stays healthy, expect him to stay in the race.
6-Trevone Boykin QB TCU 2,472-22-4 423-4
Really blew up with that seven touchdown performance against Texas Tech.
7-Cody Kessler QB USC 2,548-25-2
This guy is getting no love at all, probably because of the Trojans' record. If he can somehow lead them to a Pac 12 title game maybe he'll move up.
8-Amari Cooper WR Alabama 71-1,132-9
Best receiver in the country has been putting up huge numbers.
PREDICTIONS
Last week was rough, I was 5-4, 59-36 now on the season. This week has some really great games!
Baylor at Oklahoma: I was really thinking both teams would be undefeated heading into this matchup, but Baylor with one loss and Oklahoma with two, loser is out of the playoff race.
Oklahoma 45 Baylor 42
Iowa at Minnesota: Iowa played so well last week against Northwestern, if they play that way again I don't Minnesota will have a chance. Minnesota seems pretty one-dimensional which could bode well for the Hawkeyes.
Iowa 34 Minnesota 24
Notre Dame at Arizona State: Notre Dame looking for that first big win to get them in the playoff talk, but Arizona State is right in the thick of things, too.
Arizona State 38 Notre Dame 31
UCLA at Washington: UCLA has really been playing pretty well after a slow start this season. I think they'll continue to roll.
UCLA 31 Washington 27
Boise at New Mexico: New Mexico has played a lot better on the road this year, and Boise State is clearly the better team. I think the Lobos will put up a fight.
Boise State 45 New Mexico 34
Kansas State at TCU: Who would have thought that this game would have playoff implications? Both teams are really on fire right now and it's pretty even, so I have to go with the home team.
TCU 38 Kansas State 34
Alabama at LSU: LSU has been playing really well as of late, but so has Alabama.
Alabama 31 LSU 21
Ohio State at Michigan State: This might be the Big Ten Championship game, winner of this should win the conference and contend for a playoff spot.
Michigan State 34 Ohio State 28
Oregon at Utah: Utah lost a tough one against Arizona State, but they still look like a good football team, unfortunately, they play a really good football team this weekend.
Oregon 38 Utah 27
